DESIGNING FOR MANUFACTURE
Jones Total Design has experience designing for manufacture using the below methods. We have well established connections with manufacturers for each process, whether this is for one off or small batch runs.
Fabrication
Typically used for the construction of machine frames and heavily loaded structures, hollow section is used. Structural aluminium profile is typically used for work benches and machine guarding. We also make use of folded sheet metal, where necessary using PEM inserts, studs and blind rivets.
Machining
Manual / CNC turning and milling. Precision grinding operations both horizontal and cylindrical (post hardening as per below).
Additive
3D printed parts typically using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) and Stereolithography (SLA) typically with nylon as a media in polymers and resin. Very useful for the production of complex jig/fixture parts that cannot be produced via machining.
Casting
Foundry: sand casting with the LM grades of aluminium. Used to provide a stock form where batch quantities are required. Secondary machining op's are reduced to a minimum for improved economy. We can also design for polyurethane resin casting where seals and nesting geometries are required.
Hardening & Toughening
Hardening: through, case, induction and flame. Surface toughening: Tufftride/nitriding.
Finishing
Paint & powder coat to RAL series of colours. Zinc plating, chemical blacking. Anodising in a variety of colours or hard anodise for wear resistant parts.
